Job Summary

Instructional faculty has the important responsibility of creating an innovative learning environment both inside and outside the classroom to inspire success and excellence in student learning. Instructional faculty is also expected to adhere to professional standards and ethics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Instruct nursing and nursing assistant courses, associated laboratories, and clinical experiences.
2. Facilitate student learning in a concept-based curriculum following a team-based learning format.
3. Promote a collaborative learning environment that extends beyond the traditional classroom.
4. Use innovative strategies and emerging technology to enhance learning.
5. Demonstrate instructional competence and expertise in subject matter.
6. Actively participate in annual and five-year academic program review, including assessment of student learning at the course, program, and institutional level.
7. Advise nursing majors per degree requirements, and conduct regularly scheduled meetings to discuss student progress toward outcomes.
8. Assess and alter curriculum, testing materials, and course documents.
9. Objectively assess student performance in the classroom and clinical environment.
10. Cooperate with agency personnel to provide valuable clinical learning experiences.
11. Assist with program promotion, recruitment, retention, and evaluation activities.
12. Share student information with other faculty members and counselors when deemed appropriate, including progress reports, attendance records, etc.
13. Post and maintain established office hours.
14. Assist in program budget compliance.
15. Attend program advisory board and college meetings as necessary.
16. Represent division on college committees as appointed.
17. Operate within the guidelines set forth in CWC policies, procedures and practices.
18. Assume responsibility for professional development, service to the college, and other reasonably related duties as needed.

Position Specifications/Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Must submit an approved education plan and complete a graduate degree in nursing within five years of hire.

Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Experience

Three years of nursing experience, with a strong preference for recent experience in direct patient care, and/or instructional experience preferably in a community college setting.

Licenses and Certifications

Unencumbered license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wyoming, or the ability to obtain licensure within two months of hire.

Equivalency Statement Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

2. Ability to teach nursing and other health science courses.
3. Instructional competence, including knowledge of and experience in professional nursing.
4. Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment.
5. Knowledge of various instructional strategies and technologies to enhance student attainment of learning outcomes.
6. Commitment to exploring nontraditional approaches to education in a community college environment.
7. Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
8. Ability to use personal computer software, preferably Microsoft applications.
9. Ability to function independently and as a member of a team.
10. Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion within established deadlines.
11. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
12. Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, supervisors, and clinical agency personnel.
13. Ability to relate to a diverse student population in a professional and helpful manner.
14. Ability to objectively evaluate student progress.
15. Demonstrate working knowledge of classroom and laboratory equipment and software, to include the learning management system utilized by the college.

Level of Supervision

Work is performed under the general direction of the nursing director. Plans own time to meet predetermined schedules; work is subject to general supervision and review. Follows instructions and directions, and makes recommendations for process improvement. Has some freedom of choice in approaching problems, methods of operation, and goal-setting.

Work Environment / Environmental Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a classroom or clinical setting with appropriate climate controls. Environment may lead to exposure to human biohazardous materials, including blood and bodily fluid. Early morning, late evening and weekend work is required. Travel to clinical sites is required.

Physical Demands/Requirements

Equipment Used:
Classroom instructional multimedia (computer, projector, TV monitor, document camera); general office equipment (phone, computer, copier); and healthcare equipment.

Physical Requirements:
Work requires standing and sitting for extended periods of time, and frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
