Job Summary

Under the direction of the Recreation Program Manager, Recreation Activities Coordinator, or ‘R’ Recreation Instructor/Coach, the Recreation Assistant I is responsible for assisting with the implementation of ‘R’ Recreation community recreational opportunities.

Positions Available

R Recreation is looking for individuals who wish to assist coaching staff in any one of a variety of sports or other recreational activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Engage in a specified recreational activity by assisting the instructor/coach with event plans.

2. Work directly with participants in the specified activity/event through instruction, demonstration, or assistance of a skill or project.

3. Interact in a positive manner with participants prior to, during and after the activity/event.

4. Answer general questions regarding recreational opportunities through ‘R’ Recreation.

5. Operate within the ‘R’ Recreation Standards of Operation and Employee Expectations; and within the guidelines set forth in the College’s policies, procedures and practices.

6. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

Position Specifications/Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Enrolled in high school or other equivalent program; and be of at least 15 years of age.

Experience

No specific experience required. Must be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities.

Licenses and Certifications

None.

Equivalency Statement Equivalent combinations of education, experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

4. Responsible for maintaining a professional and respectful image.
5. Ability to problem solve and answer questions.
6. Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
7. Ability to exercise patience and to adapt to change quickly.
8. Knowledge of a specific sport or recreation program may be necessary.

Level of Supervision

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the ‘R’ Recreation Instructor/Coach, Recreation Activities Coordinator and Recreation Program Manager.

Work Environment / Environmental Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Physical Demands/Requirements

Equipment Used: Frequent use of sporting equipment for a specified sport activity and equipment necessary to facilitate and event.

Physical Requirements: Ability to move, assemble and handle sport and event equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
